Mitsubishi G4 Concept Likely Hints at Next-Generation Mirage Sedan
Mitsubishi has released a single, highly processed image of its G4 concept, described as a sub-compact sedan, which we believe will preview the next-generation Mirage sedan. Set to debut at the 2013 Bangkok auto show, which runs concurrently with the New York auto show—where, coincidentally, the brand’s new Mirage hatchback is scheduled to debut—the G4 previews a global-market offering.
Mitsubishi says that inspiration for the grille, the headlamps, and the taillamps comes from diamonds, which actually is somewhat identifiable in this photo—well, that’s true for the grille and headlights, at least; we’ll have to wait until we see the concept’s rear end to make a final judgement on the taillights. The G4 features a short nose, and a character line that kicks up to the rear, with what appears to be a healthy serving of the requisite LEDs hiding behind the headlamp lens.
Powertrain specifics have been kept to a minimum, with Mitsubishi only saying that the concept packs a version of the automaker’s 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine mated to a CVT. Mitsubishi that the production version of the G4—whatever badge it wears—will be the lightest car in its segment, resulting in best-in-class fuel economy. That statement alone suggests that development on the G4 is well past the boardroom stage and into testing.
